Jennifer Hou – A Cause for Celebration – Wesley Music Centre – April 2025

As part of the Wesley Lunchtime Concert Series, pianist Jennifer Hou returned to the stage with a program honouring three remarkable milestones in music. The concert opened with a tribute to the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel’s birth, featuring a refined and elegant performance of his neo-classical Sonatine. In celebration of American composer Caroline Shaw’s recent Grammy win for Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance (with So Percussion), Jennifer performed Shaw’s evocative Gustave Le Gray. The program concluded with a nod to Jennifer’s cultural heritage through a beautiful folk song arrangement by contemporary Chinese composer Zhang Zhao.
