About.

Jennifer Hou is an Australian solo and collaborative pianist. She has established herself as a versatile performer who is as virtuosic as she is deeply communicative, engaging audiences with programs that span classical conerstones to modern works.

Jennifer has appeared in some of the world’s most celebrated venues, including the Sydney Opera House, NSW Parliament House, Sydney Town Hall, and Steinway Hall in New York. She has also performed live on national broadcast with 2MBS Fine Music 102.5 and on KALW San Francisco, 91.7 FM. Her concerto debut came in 2018 with the North Sydney Symphony Orchestra after winning the New South Wales State Finals of the 2MBS Fine Music Young Virtuoso Award in 2017.

Jennifer completed a Masters of Piano Performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the mentorship of Corey McVicar and Jon Nakamatsu. Her time there was distinguished not only by her artistry but also by her leadership: she served as the piano department assistant, tutored in German, and was awarded the Conservatory’s 2022 President’s Award for Academic Achievement and Leadership. Her studies were generously supported by the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation, the American Australian Association, and the PPCA Performers’ Trust Foundation. She has also taken part in masterclasses internationally. She is an alumna of the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival in Florida, USA  (2021) and Music au Chateau, in France (2021). Her longtime mentor, pianist Bernadette Harvey, has been a guiding influence on her artistic development.

Jennifer continues that pedagogical tradition.  She holds a position as a Visiting Music Teacher at Canberra Grammar School, and runs a thriving private studio.

Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Music with Honours (Class I) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales. In 2024 she was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Recent performance highlights include her appearance with Music@11 in Bundanoon, bringing to life music by Prokofiev, Debussy, Ravel, Ross Edwards, and Caroline Shaw. Collaborative work is also central to her artistry: in 2023 she joined pianist Aaron Chew in a critically praised four-hands recital of Mozart, Schubert, Debussy and Australian composer, Aristea Mellos at the Wesley Music Centre.

Jennifer has also collaborated and concertised extensively with American Violinist, Patrick Galvin. They released their debut duo album, Dear Camilla, with Navona Records on 8 August 2025 (recorded at Skywalker Sound, California). The project is a tribute to legendary violin pedagogue Camilla Wicks and combines a wide range of repertoire—from Sibelius and Chausson to Arvo Pärt and Amy Beach. They tour Australia in January 2026
